Please join us in welcoming Drs. Heather Holden and Elnaz Tabrizi to AOCC! Both providers are accepting patients Starting January 1, 2022.
Heather Holden, MD, graduated from Princeton University, where her senior thesis on the development of autoimmunity in rheumatoid arthritis helped spark her interest in immunology and rheumatology. She went on to attend medical school at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, followed by an internal medicine residency program and a dedicated rheumatology fellowship program, both at Emory University.
Recently featured in Charlotte Magazine as a Charlotte Top Doctor 2021, Dr. Holden has been recognized for patient satisfaction in her previous clinical positions. She strongly believes in providing thoughtful, compassionate care while staying cognizant of the many factors (including those outside medicines) that are right for each individual patient. Dr. Holden views her patients as partners in their care plan. She works together with them to help them regain the best quality of life they can achieve.
A former volleyball and basketball player, Dr. Holden now enjoys hiking, biking, and exploring national parks with her family, and plans to add kayaking to her interests.
Elnaz Tabrizi, MD, completed her undergraduate education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before attending optometry school at Pennsylvania College of Optometry. She then went on to achieve her Doctor of Medicine from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. Dr. Tabrizi’s clinical interests include inflammatory eye disease and management of inflammatory arthritis, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and more.
Dr. Tabrizi chose rheumatology as her specialty because it allows her to develop lasting relationships with patients while improving the quality of life for them. For her, getting to know patients on a personal level and understanding what is meaningful to them helps her craft detailed treatment plans with her patients’ input. Dr. Tabrizi views practicing rheumatology as a puzzle because each patient is a truly unique piece of a greater whole.
She was previously awarded the Patient’s Choice Award at Atrium Health and named a Charlotte Magazine Top Doctor and one of North Carolina’s Top Doctors by Business NC.
Outside of work, Dr. Tabrizi is a busy mom of three boys. It’s not unusual to find her on the Little League Fields or shuttling her kids to different sports practices. Her family enjoys spending time on the lake, visiting new places and creating new adventures, and she is on an ongoing mission to perfect her sourdough recipe.
